     Shadow sat up suddenly in bed and gasped loudly.  The sudden noise awoke the woman beside him as well.     "What is it?!  Shadow?"  Rouge sat up next to him and glanced wildly about the dark bedroom, expecting some kind of danger.  But there wasn't any.  When she realized this, she turned towards her partner in bed and took a good look at him.     Shadow was pale.  Beads of cold sweat were forming on his brow and sliding down his face.  His pupils were huge, and he had a hand on his chest, gripping at the tuft of fur there as if he were in pain.  His heart was beating fast.     "Shadow?"  Rouge asked again.  Shadow didn't answer.
